Superintendent's Corner: Mr Jeremy Tinsley

Dear VCS Families,

After a wonderful summer of Sabbath rest, exploring Creation, and spending time with family,
we’re excited to venture into a new school year with you.

Like some of you, my family spent a great deal of time outside during the summer. We found the
crisp, cool waters of Lightning Lake in Manning Park and Garibaldi Lake to be a great relief after
hot days of hiking in the mountains. My legs may have been a bit wobbly after reaching the
intimidating heights of Black Tusk (photo below), but my soul felt nourished and restored as I
marvelled at the view. The verse, “Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid...for the Lord your God goes with you” definitely came to mind as I struggled up the final stretch of the mountain!

I trust the summer also provided you with a time of renewal, and a time to nurture positive relationships with your family members and friends.

Summer construction work in the school proceeded at a strong pace over the past two months and began immediately upon completion of the previous school year. We’re excited to add another classroom on the first floor for our elementary students, who will learn in closer proximity to their peers in the elementary wing. The construction work is nearly complete and remains on schedule to open in time for the start of the school year.

Another new classroom was created by combining two of our small group rooms in the library learning commons. This high school room provides a great learning space filled with beautiful natural light and views of the distant mountains; it also is on schedule to open by the start of the school year.

As planned, 59 new, larger lockers have been added to our high school wing and the lockers they replaced have been reinstalled in other areas of the school for use by elementary or middle
school students.

Our new lobby stairway project is moving forward steadily but steel procurement and fabrication delays will mean that it will not be installed and ready to use until later in the fall. These delays are out of our control, and we can certainly live a few more months with our current sets of stairs.

These projects are exciting, but far more important than building projects are the people who
form this community. As a staff, we are delighted to engage with your children and young adults
in exploring their place in God’s world. We can’t wait to walk beside our students as they
become community-builders who find joy in serving others, as they create beautiful things, as
they develop academically and athletically. We are here not because we have a nice facility, but
because God calls us to raise our children to know the unending love Jesus has for them, and
to respond out of gratitude for the sacrifice He made on the cross.

Please join me in praying that our building projects will finish in good time. However, more
importantly than that, please pray that our school will have a positive impact on our City and
neighbours. Please pray that we’ll be a place where youth experience the love of Jesus and
share it. Pray that students and staff will nurture positive and healthy relationships, where our
young people will grow in resiliency and experience moments of wonder in their learning, and
that together, we will give thanks each day for God’s goodness.

Sincerely,

Jeremy Tinsley
