Strings Summer Camp 2026

Strings Summer Camp 2026

A love of music has always been a big part of VCS’ story. Music is a God-given language of expression and worship, bringing joy both to the listener and player. We are delighted to offer a new summer opportunity that invites young musicians to grow and share in this gift.

From June 29 to July 3, 2026, VCS will host its inaugural Strings Summer Camp for Grades 3-12 students who have a passion for music, are eager for a technical challenge, and who wish to build their ensemble skills in a supportive and collaborative environment.

Students will be encouraged and challenged as they grow in musical confidence, learning from instructors who bring a wealth of performance and pedagogical experience while sharing in the joy of creating music together.

VCS and non-VCS students are welcome to participate.

Get to Know the Musician-teachers

The Strings Summer Camp will be led by VCS’ Strings teacher, Mr. Dominic Woo, and his predecessor, Ms. Margitta Krebs. Mr. Woo will lead high school participants in preparing advanced repertoire for the String orchestra. Ms. Krebs, together with Mrs. Karen Boersma, VCS’ music teacher, will work with elementary school participants, guiding them in acquiring ensemble skills through musical games and level-appropriate, engaging repertoire.

Dominic Woo is a Vancouver-based violinist, educator, and conductor. An experienced chamber musician who has performed in both Germany and Canada, he studied violin at the conservatories of Leipzig, Weimar, and Dresden. Alongside his performing career, Woo is a dedicated teacher whose students have earned top prizes at competitions and festivals. He is passionate about developing young musicians and fostering the next generation of string players.

Margitta Krebs has been teaching young violinists and playing chamber music for 40 years. For 30 years, she conducted the debut and junior divisions of the Vancouver Youth Symphony Orchestra. From 2010-2025 she was the strings teacher at Vancouver Christian School. After retiring from VCS, she maintains her private teaching studio and coaches young string players in the BC Registered Music Teachers’ Association chamber music program.
